Announcing the first NLC Contest

Its almost a year since the last seaside screamer contest, and a few months back I decided to start working on a template for the third and most likely final edition of the contest. The response to the previous two was incredible, and multiple entries were submitted for them, so hopefully this one will be as (if not more ) successful!

With this contest I wanted to create a park template that takes inspiration from a small amusement park in the UK called Clarence Pier. The park isnt anything too special, but I thought with some tweaking it would make for an interesting template

Apart from the template being a lot larger than the real Clarence Pier, the main addition is a large Pier stretching out into the ocean and sporting an observation tower at the end. The main reason it has been added in was to give some challenges for people when it comes to adding the ride supports. Because its a pier and effectively over the water, pouring concrete footers would not really be a possibility. This means that you will have to create a base frame structure (This will be explained more in detail in the ride criteria section)

The Competition Briefing
The park has recently constructed a brand new pier onto their park, and want to turn it into a national icon by adding a roller coaster to the park that utilises it, and even interacts with the observation tower thats at the very end of the pier. To reach the pier, the ride has to traverse over the existing park pathways and rides and avoid going below a minimum height limit in the designated areas. They have removed their mini golf complex to make room for the roller coaster's start point, and have also marked out an area in the park that can be used for low sections of the coaster

Wireframe Guide
- Green = Build Zone (All supports and track must remain in this area)
- Blue = Areas where you MUST use base frame supports
- Red = Minimum height areas (to allow for flat ride and path clearence)
- Orange = Area designanted by park where you may ignore the minimum height limit, and also where wooden supports can touch the floor
- Yellow = Start area, MUST contain the station and storage
The coaster must be at least 3000ft long

Each wireframe outline has been given a basic description if you get confused as to what they mean, and the park description also has a basic guide
The Deadline will be exactly 1 month later on February 2nd
Mark your calendars and get planning! Reply if you are interested in entering so we can get an idea of how many people are planning to enter

Ideally we need you to stay sane before R250
^Jesus Christ! You have way too much free time.
From a friend to a friend and his new keyboard, stop. You've done enough.
I might have gotten a bit carried away with this thing....
LSM Launch section is near completion
FEATURES
Individual LSM modules connected with cables
A full air cooling system rigged up with pipes to each LSM
Complete wiring along with cable trays to power every component
Air pumps
90% made using supports
Unfrozen view... I need serious mental help.
I just realize: You can use our (3cd) light effect set for that, since it can control any entity color using track triggers - with fades!.
It is not limited to actual light effects, check out the custom object tutorial, maybe you also want to read the custom lightshow tutorial before.
added to the list^
I love that thing soooooooo much.
Also, first comment ever on NLC.
Please pin this - this is invaluable information!!
Has anyone ever told you that you would be an incredible layout designer
Please send a GIF of your NL2 folder being moved to the recycle bin.
In all seriousness, it is infact hand built lmao, glad you like it!
^I mean, you can do it too. There's a tutorial right here on the forums
If this is hand build I quit Nolimits.
I'm loving the look of this so far! Green Hortnet looks amazing with that nightshot, and the video on Blue Falcon looks amazing as well!
^ What do you mean? Like delete the messages?

First and foremost, thanks RWN for the time and effort you put in this new forum. I think we all really love it.
I just came across a weird bug tho, in the private message window. When I hower my mouse over this area back and forth, and then if I keep my mouse there it shakes real quick, like it's having a seizure:
Thanks, I'll take a look at that
^Well, I can't script, so this is a dead end currently.
But if I could; I assume you can "simulate" a smooth blending with a lot of track triggers?
Is it possible when a message session with another user of the forum is finished, possible to remove the session ?
The material would be simple enough:
Result = Tex0;
Ambient = Entity0;
Specular = Mul(Specular, Entity0);
The specular line isn't really physically correct, but you'll probably want to reduce reflections when in tunnels. Entity0 would be white for outside tunnel, black for inside.
The scripting is obviously the tricky part. You probably want to use track triggers, smooth blending and making the first car darken before the next could be an interesting problem to try and solve.
I'm still iffy on it. I don't think the layout is all that great still, albeit not the worst. What'll make/break it for me is definitely going to be the pacing, because it seems like it has the potential to go either enjoyably fast or crawling slow. That flat turn still worries me in that regard and also the fact that they have so many restrictions in place when building this thing.
I'm sure, like every coaster (bad or good) it'll still be an enjoyable ride.
