The Challenge: Portable Coaster
You must build a portable coaster that appears reasonably able to be dismantled and moved. Some good examples of this are any of the Schwarzkopf traveling coasters, Eurostar, various Pinafari coasters, and more. Rather than connected to footers deep in the ground, traveling coasters attach to a rigid base steel grid structure. This ensures the supports do not spread apart, and that the weight of the entire structure keeps it from moving.
Primary rules:
- Build one coaster of any style such that the coaster appears to be portable.
- Your coaster may be as long, as tall, and as fast as you like with as many lifts/launches as you like.
- Minimum capacity 1800 riders per hour.
- Track may not go underground or intersect with any scenery, track, supports, or the station building.
- Adequate storage for all trains is required.
- Adequate clearance must be maintained at all times.
- Coaster must be on flat, level land. You may further terraform if necessary, but the land must be flat.
- Coaster may not go over water.
Time Rules
- The 5 hour build period begins on May 15th, 2020 at 4:00 PM GMT when the contest park is available for download.
- You must build one coaster in the provided contest map.
- You will have until 9:00 PM GMT (5 hours total) to upload your finished park to a file exchange/download/FTP site and fill out the official entry form with the download information, coaster names, your name, and your email address. Allow yourself spare time to upload your coaster and fill out this form.
Track & Support rules:
- Any coaster style is permissible provided the final result appears to be portable.
- There is no minimum or maximum track length, nor any restrictions on speed, height, dimensions, or inversions.
- Realistic forces at all times for the selected coaster style.
- The base of the support structure should be connected together. No footer should be disconnected from the main structure.
- Footers are not required; the support beams may rest directly on the ground.
- Tunnels are allowed, however they may not go below the track.
Capacity Rules:
- Minimum capacity 1800 riders per hour
- Unlimited number of trains allowed
- Capacity judged using the included Capacity Counter object. To use, move the capacity counter box near the track outside of your station. Capacity is calculated and averaged over the next 11 trains to pass it.
- Dispatch times must be realistic.
For reference:
8 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 16 seconds.
12 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 24 seconds.
16 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 32 seconds.
20 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 40 seconds.
24 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 48 seconds.
28 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 56 seconds.
32 riders per train requires a train pass the counter every 64 seconds.
Other Rules:
- NO custom or pre-packaged scripts can be used on your coaster. Just keep it simple.
- Any submission not using the template and/or submissions built prior to the contest will be disqualified.
- You can only use NoLimits 2 and entities packaged with it - no custom 3D scenery, environments, or cartextures.
- You may add scenery, however all scenery will be hidden and will not be judged as part of your coaster experience.
- One entry per person. If you upload more than one entry, we will only consider the last one entered.
- Please include your name and coaster name in the file name submission.
Judging criteria:
Realism - Forces, track shaping, coaster operations, capacity.
Creativity - Creativity/originality in layout elements, unique concepts.
Supports - Support adequacy, clearance, design, density.
Portability - How much does this look like it could be reasonably disassembled and trasnported?
Fun - Pacing, variety of elements, flow.
Disqualification criteria:
- Track or any part of the coaster goes below ground or through scenery, including station building.
- Track or any part of the coaster goes over water.
- 1800 riders per hour capacity not met or unable to measure.
- Collision with another coaster, with any part of itself, ground, water, station building, or scenery.
- Unable to download or open your submitted file
